Fit is one of the biggest reasons a good boot can feel uncomfortable. Many work boot issues come down to choosing the wrong size or width, not the construction of the boot. Here are answers to some of the questions customers ask most before they buy.

How should a safety toe boot fit?
Safety toes do not flex. Your toes should have room to move without brushing the cap when you step off. Going up a half size is common when moving from a soft toe to a steel toe. Try boots on with your work socks and at the end of the day when your feet have naturally swollen.
How do I find the right width?
Width matters just as much as length when finding a comfortable fit. A boot that fits in length but pinches across the ball of the foot can cause hot spots that no break-in period will fix. Use the width filter on this page to see what options are available in your size.

Are all of your men's work boots lace-up?
No. Most of what we carry is lace-up since laces let you dial in the fit and provide better ankle support on uneven ground. A lace-up steel toe boot is the most common setup on a construction site for that reason. How long does it take to break in a new pair?
Most full-grain leather boots take one to two weeks of regular wear. Wear them a few hours a day at first instead of jumping straight into a ten-hour shift. If a boot still hurts after two weeks, the fit is wrong, and no amount of break-in will correct it. When should I replace my work boots?
Look at the outsole tread first. Once it is worn smooth, slip resistance is gone regardless of how good the upper looks. Cracked leather, a compressed midsole that no longer cushions, or an exposed safety toe means it is time.
Can I wear steel toe boots through a metal detector?
No. Steel and alloy toes will trigger a detector. If you work in an airport, courthouse, or secure facility, go with a composite toe.
