Winter Can't Stop Seniors From Staying Active and Healthy!
Family Footwear Center encourages residents in our local communities to learn about the value of Foot Health and how important it is to wear proper-fitting shoes. Our staff, of specially trained Footwear Professionals, at all our store locations accomplishes this by being a part of local community clinics, by offering our customers free, in-store appointments with an American Board Certified Pedorthist and by participating in educational, Foot Healthy Events.
Recently, our Manchester Store location was a proud sponsor of one such event at Equinox Village, which is Vermont’s only Independent Senior Living Community. Despite the cold, snowy weather outside this winter, their Activities Coordinator, Kylee Ryan, came up with a fun way to get residents up and moving, while staying warm inside.
Ryan hosted an Indoor Walking Event, that recorded the amount of steps each resident took while walking through the hallways of Equinox Village. Ryan kept track of these steps on a virtual game board “...similar to a game of Chutes and Ladders.” The winner was the resident who traveled around this virtual game board the most times, during the event.
Josh Denio, Manager of our Manchester store, was there to extend his congratulations to the winner, Anne Beck, whoby walking at least 30 minutes a day had circled the board 11 times. Denio presented Beck with a Gift Certificate, good at any of our Family Footwear Center locationsand he also extended store discounts to all of the other active participants. The event was mentioned here in the Vermont News Guide.
